Prophet Yunus (AS) Word Search Freebie for Young Learners

This is a photo of my granddaughter circling the word, "boat" on a Prophet Yunus (AS) word search.  While watching her work through an Islamic activity, I was reminded of how much I've missed creating learning materials. For years, lesson planning and designing learning activities were a major part of my role as an ESL teacher.

Now that I'm retired and a grandmother of four, teaching has returned in a different way.  I began creating Islamic-themed worksheets for my grandchildren to give their mother tools to help instill Islamic knowledge at home. As a result, I recently opened a store on Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) to offer printables for Islamic schools, homeschoolers, and Muslim families who are searching for engaging faith-centred activities for young learners.

The first activity is a child-friendly word search designed for grades 1-3 (ages 6-8). The Prophet Yunus (AS) word search  also has an answer key. It can be downloaded for free through my TPT store. This word search works well as a follow-up activity.  The complete story pack is also available at TPT. The pack will also provide context for the vocabulary in the puzzle. The words are found horizontally and vertically in the wordsearch. Young learners can colour the bubble letters and clip art. It's a way to build word recognition, scanning skills and early literacy while adding some creativity.

As mentioned earlier, the story of Prophet Yunus (AS) and reading comprehension pack is also available at DecarloMatano store on TPT. The pack includes:

  •  a child-friendly story
  •  comprehension questions.
  •  a colouring clip art option.
  •  an answer key
The reading pack pairs well with the word search.

To capture the essence of this lesson, here is a short reminder from Ustadh Hisham Abu Yusuf on why this dua is so vital for us and our young learners.

This is the first Prophet story and more stories to follow.  You can follow my TPT store, Sign up for my newsletter to be notified as new resources are listed. The 5 Pillars of Islam activity worksheets will be listed soon.
